Survival of Gold Group

Gold group are halfway through a 6-week survival programme where they are visiting the same plot in Blaydon Burn to build up a campsite and learn survival skills. The aim of the programme is to teach the learners to work as a team to achieve a common goal, to build their confidence, self-esteem, resilience and wellbeing. So far, along with the outdoor education coordinator and their support staff, the Gold group have built a shelter and are becoming more competent at starting and maintaining fires for warmth and cooking food. Each of the learners has celebrated their successes as the weeks have progressed and their confidence levels are rising.
