Where the railways started

Friday enrichment kept ‘on track’ with a relaxing walk up to where George Stephenson was born – a National Trust property housed on Hadrian’s Way which is part of the National Cycle Network.

Learners found it fascinating that the path they were walking along one carried horse drawn carts to and from the mines in the local area, and even brought in some maths identifying the distances on the signs from where they were, to the likes of Newcastle and Wylam.

The weather was kind to us, and the walk covered quite a distance considering the time we were out, and this was recorded on Strava which profiles your adventures (and there’ll be more lessons from this than ever!).
