Spotlight on Technology

This half-term we’ve been focusing on using technology in the classroom. We’re really lucky to have a 3D printer in The Sanctuary as well as some amazing sensory room resources. Learners have been finding out how to use the new 3D printer and working cooperatively in groups to take turns to set it up and use it. Learners have been making mobile phone stands and more exciting pieces are to come! We are sure you’ll agree that our printer is a great piece of cutting-edge technology to have.

Mental wellbeing is a really important part of daily life in The Sanctuary, and we have 2 sensory rooms as well as a therapy room where we are fortunate enough to have sessions with our Psychotherapeutic Counsellor if we choose. On a daily basis, we talk about how we are feeling, what makes us feel good and how we can help ourselves when emotions run high. Another way learners explore and look after their wellbeing is to use the sensory rooms. We now have lots of brilliant equipment to help us feel calm, and one learner has been working really hard to find ways to feel better when he gets upset. The most successful strategy he has found is using the sensory equipment to make a ‘calm den’ which has been a revelation!
