Sanctuary Perseverance

This half term, learners in The Sanctuary have demonstrated perseverance by the bucket load (pardon the pun)! One area in particular which has been particularly impressive is in literacy and phonics.
Two of our hard-working young chaps have been working to recognise letters and numbers as well as new sounds. This can be difficult as some sounds are similar and some letters can sometimes look like numbers when you’re first learning.
There were definitely times when the boys, by their own admission, felt like giving up before starting, especially when they were learning new sounds – new can be scary. They are so proud of themselves and we are, too. We have had lots of fun learning together using the sand tray as well as model animals to explore different shapes and make activities as hands on as possible. This term has been a successful one and builds on the knowledge our learners developed in the schools they attended before joining The Sanctuary. We have learned that whilst new can be scary, persevering can lead to all sorts of victories and resilience, and this will prepare us for life.
As you can see form these pictures, learning was hands on, fun and full of textures. Sometimes it got messy but was all in the name of fun and learning new skills! Here is how we reinforced our knowledge of the letters and sounds of ‘P’ and ‘S’.
