Knives Down Football League
School Council has secured a £500 grant from the Northumbria Violence Reduction Unit who had £15,000 available to support young people and allow them to put forward ideas that would help to stop young people from carrying knives and make them feel safer.
This £500 will go towards funding a football team called the ‘Knives Down’ football league by providing them with kits, boots and trophies. The football league matches will take place at Trinity Academy Newcastle Upper Site and aims to keep children and young people off the streets and to join in a proactive football community and will reiterate the importance of how the effects of knife crime are permanent. This will be represented in the fact that if a learner joins the league and is seen carrying or using a knife then they will permanently be banned from participating again. We are hoping to expand the league to encourage members from all sites to participate and are aiming to roll this project out before the half-term and encourage all school learners across the Trust to join in.
