Hottest day on record!

Tuesday 19th of July looks like being the hottest day ever recorded in Britain. Grey group took the opportunity to check things out for themselves. After lunch they took digital and analogue thermometers out to take some temperatures around the school. They recorded a range of temperatures around the school, all over 30oC. The highest of 39oC was on the front of the minibus. The temperature in the Science room was 33.5OC.
Hotter than ‘76?
Some parents and carers will remember the summer of ‘76 which is being talked about a lot. The hot spell in 1976 lasted a lot longer than this one is predicted to with no rain in some parts of the UK for more than 40 days and temperatures over 32 for 15 consecutive days. It wasn’t as hot as the current heatwave with a maximum recorded temperature of 35.6oC. The Met office have just tweeted a record temperature of 40.2oC at Heathrow airport.
