Learners Visit Riverside Falconry

Some learners at Trinity Academy have been attending Riverside Falconry, Newburn, as part of Trinity’s alternative provision programme. It’s a fantastic site, and we are really lucky to have partnered with them.

Learners undertake many activities including training and feeding birds of prey. Learners enjoy learning how to secure the birds to falconry gloves, and securing them by using a special kind of knot called a ‘falconer’s knot.’ Learners also get the chance to cook food from scratch using camping equipment in nearby fields, with stews and curries being the most popular and tasty dishes!

One of Trinity’s Year 10 learners loves attending and was recently interviewed. He said that going to Riverside Falconry has improved his confidence and that he really looks forward to attending every week. When asked about his sessions, he had this to say:

“Thanks for sharing your knowledge with birds of prey with me and others from my school. It is such an exciting subject to work on. Your patience has helped me massively and has given me so much more confidence with working with birds of prey and snakes but most importantly with myself.

On behalf of Trinity Academy Newcastle, I would like to thank John and Katherine for all their hard work and patience with everybody that attends from my school. How welcoming, knowledgeable and kind, you have made me feel as though I fitted in straight away, and I started learning from my first day”.

Thank you, Riverside Falconry, and well done to all Trinity learners who attend. Keep up the great work!
